Short Distance

You make a B-line for the colonnade
to avoid getting wet.
What you should have done
was try to walk between the raindrops,
You’d get wet at first, of course,
however, with practice, you’d notice
how the rain fell, the pattern, the rhythm
its design–it’s all about the design–
then you’d get a feel of where
you fit in: when to wait, when to dart,
when to open your mouth
to catch one refreshing drop.
